Who we are

Alaq is a web service that helps teachers run their lessons. It is provided by Alaq LLC, based in Qatar, which is responsible for your data. For any privacy matter, contact support@alaq.app.

Data we collect

• Account data: your name, the phone number or Google email you signed in with, and your time zone.
• Class data you enter: class names, student names as you type them, and the groups you place them in and their names.
• Stars you award and when, to show the leaderboard and the class goal.
• Subscription data: its status, renewal date and Paddle identifiers. Your card details never pass through us; Paddle processes them directly.
• Technical data needed to run and protect the service, such as request logs and IP addresses.

Student data

Students do not create accounts or use the service themselves. The teacher enters their names and is responsible for being authorised to do so under their school's policy.

We recommend using first names only, or a number per student; every feature works the same.

Student groups are shown only to the teacher on their own screen and phone, never on the classroom display.

We use student data only to provide the service to the teacher. We do not sell it or share it for advertising.

How we use data

• To provide the service: sign-in, saving your classes, and syncing the lesson between your devices.
• To manage your subscription and trial and decide what your account can access.
• To contact you about your account, subscription or important changes to the service.
• To protect the service from abuse and meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your data and do not show ads in the service.

Service providers

We rely on trusted providers who process data on our behalf and only on our instructions:

• Google Firebase: sign-in by phone code or Google account.
• Neon: our database, hosted in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany).
• Resend: sending service emails, such as the notice before deleting an inactive account.
• Vercel: website hosting.
• Paddle: payment processing as Merchant of Record; your data with Paddle is also covered by Paddle's own privacy policy.

This can mean some data is transferred outside your country; we take care that this happens with appropriate safeguards.

Cookies and local storage

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. Your browser also stores a few preferences (such as mute) and any stars awarded offline until they sync. We use no tracking or advertising cookies.

How long we keep data

• We keep your account and class data while your account exists.
• If you have no active subscription, we keep your data for 12 months from your last activity (your last sign-in, or the end of your trial or subscription), then delete it permanently. If we have your email, we send you a notice 30 days before; signing in cancels the deletion.
• When you delete your account, your classes, students and their stars are deleted permanently.
• We may keep billing records for as long as the law requires.

Your rights

• Access and download your data: Settings → Privacy & data → Download my data.
• Correct your data from the settings and class pages.
• Delete your account and all its data: Settings → Privacy & data → Delete account.
• Any other request about your data: email support@alaq.app.

Security

Data travels encrypted over HTTPS, and each teacher's classes are only accessible to their own account. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data and will notify you of any incident affecting it as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will change the last-updated date above and tell you about material changes before they take effect.
